Matt Dury
Architectural Design Winner 2010
(Interviewed 26th August 2010)
"I entered the Northern Design Competition in 2010 as it provided a great opportunity for design students from outside London to get their work recognised and gain feedback by an established panel of judges. I feel very privileged that my work was short listed and was surprised to be eventually chosen as the winner of Architectural Design category from such a competitive shortlist. The exhibition also gave me a great opportunity to exhibit my work to a number of industry experts and meet other designers at the Rose Bowl in Leeds.
Winning the Architectural Category of The Northern Design Competition has not only increased my confidence and belief in my own abilities, but has also helped me become much more focused on architecture and in achieving my future goals. The award is the highlight of my CV, and I feel that it has given my portfolio an advantage in a competitive field during a challenging economic climate.
The exhibition had work from a lot of talented graduates across a wide range of categories and skills and this has encouraged me to keep working hard in my own studies.
After my 12 month placement at Space Group in Newcastle, I am looking forward to continuing my studies at Northumbria University, and working towards completing my professional experience and qualifications. I hope that I can continue to justify this award and build upon what I have learnt in my studies so far."
