Amie Price
Fashion Design Winner 2008
(Interviewed 6th October 2009)
"When I won the fashion category at the Northern Design Competition last summer i had just completed my first year at university. It came as such a shock as most of the other winners had all completed their courses and I was just starting out!
I am now in my third year still studying fashion at John Moores University in Liverpool. After a hectic second year, i am readying a collection to hopefully showcase at London Graduate Fashion Week next June. Focusing on print and silhouette, i am really excited about my current project. And then hopefully by this time next year i will be studying on an MA course! Busy bees!
Since the Northern Design Competition i have completed a work placement at Warehouse and i am about three weeks away from starting a placement at Tatty Devine. The competition definitely put me in good stead when it came to interviews as it throws some weight behind my designs. It has boosted my confidence dramatically. It's amazing to have such exposure of your work and to have positive feedback from people in industry. Everyone at university has been very supportive of me on my win, leading to coverage on the web and in brochures for the University.
It seems so crazy that when I type my name in to Google, a picture of the award winning dress pops up! It all seems like such a dream, i never thought i would have such success so early in my career.
But now to buckle down, as it's no where near over yet!"
